Dr. Obama Has Me Feeling Better
I’ve been a pretty miserable sod the last month or so. You see, I became convinced that any meaningful health insurance reform was being compromised away, leaving us with a worse mess than the one we are currently in. That could still happen, but I am less worried about it now than I was before the POTUS speech last night.
I was angry and frustrated before the speech because I thought Obama was willing to give away the so called public option for the sake of getting something – anything, any kind of legislative slops – passed out of Congress. I was worried that there would be an individual mandate imposed without any balancing provision to keep the health insurance companies in check.
Happily, the President allayed most of my fears on that score. I was pleased by his promise to make it illegal for the insurance companies impose pre-existing conditions on potential subscribers and to drop subscribers who become seriously ill. I was especially impressed with his strong support for a public option, even though he entertains the possibility of attaching a trigger to it.
In summary, I am more hopeful today than I was yesterday. Maybe I can support Dem candidates after all.
I have enjoyed as well the Joe Wilson clown show which continues unto this very moment.
