The United States and other governments that continue to sell weapons to Saudi Arabia are guilty of “the worst kind of hypocrisy,” an international watchdog charged on Monday, as the arms trade continues despite mounting evidence of civilian causalities, war crimes, and other atrocities being committed by the kingdom in Yemen.

War Is Good For Absolutely Nothin’

I could not agree more with this quote from Atrios:

Wars are failures. A primary purpose of sensible foreign policy is to stop them. When wars happen, our foreign policy has failed. That isn’t to say there’s never a point when they’re necessary or justified, but that point is simply an acknowledgment that the people in charge failed.

America’s tragedy is that the primary purpose of its foreign policy has too often been not to stop wars but to promote them. This pattern has made the empire wealthy, while condemning many of its citizens to poverty and degradation. For further information, see Billmon.
